LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Zakat and Ushr, Shaukat Laleka on Thursday said the government would manage to distribute Zakat to the deserving during the holy month of Ramadan.
Responding to a point by the opposition MPA Mian Jalil during the Punjab Assembly session, he said the previous regime of PML-N had not constituted upto 450 Zakat committes in the province.
Earlier, the PA session started 2 hours 5 minutes behind its scheduled time of 2 pm with Deputy Speaker Sardar Dost Muhammad Mazari in the chair.
MPA Mian Jalil had claimed that the government had even failed to constitute Zakat committees although the holy month of Ramadan was drawing near head.
The provincial minister alleged that the previous regime had not distributed Zakat funds of 50 to 60 million rupees last year.
Speaking on a point of order former minister for Zakat Malik Nadeem Kamran said that the PML-N government had constituted 20,000 Zakat comiittees during its tenure.
During the question hour, Opposition MPA Arshad Malik pointed out that there was no bus to commute girl students at Government Degree College for Women Sahiwal. Upon which the Chair directed the Parliamnetary Secretary to himself visit the college and provide a bus to the college in Sahiwal.
The Opposition protested against the abolition of old Zakat committees in the province which were formed by the PML-N government.
