VU honours 2345 graduates at convocation

LAHORE: About 2345 graduates including Phd scholars were awarded degrees during the 10th convocation of the Virtual University of Pakistan (VU) here on Thursday.

Prof Dr Naveed A. Malik, the Founding Rector of the VU, who was the chief guest on the occasion, gave away degrees to the graduates. He also awarded 20 gold medals and 56 merit certificates to the high achievers.

Speaking on the occasion, he advised the students to make their university proud by being hard working, innovative, committed and ethical. He said that the huge avenues of education and professional development were still waiting for them to discover the new horizons of attainment. He said VU is an institution of higher quality learning and research that has a considerable stature in society. He expressed his deep appreciation for the efforts being made by VU towards achieving academic excellence and promoting higher education at far flung areas of Pakistan

Dr A. Malik appreciated the government and ministry of Information and Technology for their continuous support to promote higher education of international standard in the country. He also appreciated the Virtual University, its role for promotion of quality education across the country.

while speaking the occasion, Naeem Tariq Rector VU, welcomed the guests and profusely congratulated the students and thanked their families for gracing the event. He also highlighted the achievements of the Virtual University and its leading role in delivering information and communication technology. He added that VU also contributed to provision of quality education even into the remotest areas of the country. He said VU has been promoting research culture among its students since its inception. He further said that a state-of- the- art mobile laboratory for life sciences students is providing lab facilities across country. He further said that VU is imparting quality training to the youth of Pakistan through its skills based projects, adding that the VU has trained over one million people across country.

Naeem Tariq advised the students to use their knowledge and skills, they had learnt at VU to make an extraordinary difference. He further asked them to always remain committed with their profession, improving their skills and be lifelong learner.

At the end, Founding Rector along with Rector Naeem Tariq gave away medals and awards to the high achievers to celebrate dedication in their respective disciplines. An audience including proud parents, members of faculty, eminent personalities from academia, corporate and public sector attended the event.
