Rescue 1122 organises ‘Left Lane’ awareness rally

Dr Rizwan says by abiding traffic laws, ride in left lane for motobikers can reduce accidents

LAHORE: The Director General Punjab Emergency Service, Dr Rizwan Naseer led the Motorbike Safety Awareness Rally on “Left Lane Awareness” organised by Safety Wing of Emergency Services Academy (ESA) in collaboration with Honda Atlas to prevent increasing number of motorbike traffic crashes.

He said that motorbike accidents has become silent killer and one of the leading cause of accidents so it is need of the hour to prevent such accidents by raising road use education, enforcement of traffic laws and improvement of road engineering. The rally started from Muslim Town Rescue Office followed by the route canal road, Jail road, Tollinton market and culminated at LOS Rescue 1122 Head Office here on Saturday.
The Managing Director Altas Honda Mr Zafar Iqbal, Head of Safety Wing ESA Muhammad Ahsan, District Emergency Officer Lahore Shahid Waheed Qamer, officers from Headquarters, Academy, City Traffic Police, Lahore, Rescue Scout and large number of rescuers participated in the rally.

While addressing the ceremony, the Director General, Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) Dr Rizwan Naseer shared the statistics of road traffic crashes with media representatives and participants of the rally.
He said that Rescue 1122 has rescued over 2.1million helpless victims of emergencies since its inception.
The Rescue 1122 is responding over average 900 road traffic accidents on daily basis in which more than 80% motorcyclists were involved in accidents. The major cause of accidents were over speeding, volition of lane, not wearing safety helmet and underage driving.

While expressing the significant of the Left Lane, he said that accidents can be prevented or reduced by adopting common safety measures; drive motorbike in extreme left lane, ensure wearing of safety helmet with proper straps, maximum speed less than 50km/h and proper usage of the side mirrors.
He also requested the media and all stakeholders to join hands with rescue 1122 to reduce road traffic crashes.
On this occasion, General Manager Sales Atlas Honda Mr Zafar Iqbal appreciated this unique initiative of community awareness and services of rescue 1122 under the dynamic leadership of Dr Rizwan Naseer.
He also ensured that Atlas Honda would provide all possible support to rescue for making this campaign successful.
