Ratio of registered voters surged by 23 percent: ECP
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Friday sharing the details of registered voters informed that overall ratio of eligible voters surged by 23 percent for upcoming polls 2018 as compared to the election 2013.
According to an official of ECP, the ratio of registered voters had witnessed an upward trend as the number of male voters increased by 21.87 percent while female voters’ ratio was evident with an increase of 24.29 percent.
Explaining the comparison with last year’s registered voters, the official told that as many as 105.955,409 million eligible voters would exercise their right to elect members of National and Provincial assemblies in the polls.
In the last election, a total 86.189,802 million voters including 48.592387 million male and 37.597415 million female voters were registered with the ECP.
“Around 59.22 million male and 46.73 million female voters will cast their votes in the upcoming elections”, the source added.
ECP issues notice to Nawaz over party name
Separately, the ECP issued notice to PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif to appear before the commission in a petition arguing the name of the party cannot contain the name of a disqualified person.
Nawaz, who was disqualified via the Panamagate verdict last year and later removed from his own party’s presidency, has been asked to appear on July 9.
PTI to launch its election campaign today in Islamabad
PTI will launch its election campaign in federal capital today.
The campaign will kick off from workers convention. Islamabad administration has issued NOC on this count. Imran Khan and others will address workers convention. All the preparations have been finalised for this convention.
PTI calls for removal of
The PTI has demanded immediate removal of Governor Punjab Malik Rafique Rajwana from the office by saying, his strong affiliations with PML-N and the Sharif family is paving way for lack of balance in the electoral environment. —Agencies
In his letter to the ECP PTI leader Babar Awan has said , “ it is legal binding on the ECP under the Constitution to conduct free and fair elections; the Governor of Punjab has strong affiliations with the PML-N and the Sharif Family, which is paving way for imbalance in election environment, hence, it is requested that a notice of this urgent matter be taken on immediate basis”.
Earlier, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s through his Spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry has moved the ECP to extend the time duration of casting votes for the upcoming general election. —Online
Fawad Chaudhry in his letter to ECP has said that the intense heat waves have gripped the country and extending the polling timing will help the voters especially ailing and aged, therefore, the duration be extended till 8:00 pm instead of 5:00 pm.
