ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Wednesday it is inappropriate that the opposition only criticises the government but has no courage to hear the government’s response to the criticism.
Speaking to the media after a meeting of the PTI parliamentary party at the Parliament House, he said the government and the opposition will have to listen to each other’s standpoint with courage.
He said opposition parities’ not allowing the government to respond to criticism negated democratic thinking.
Qureshi said the PTI government will consult the opposition parties over increasing seats in the erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).
About the new local bodies system in Punjab, he said it has been acclaimed by the people, adding the new local government system would ensure devolution of power to the lower tier of administration.
He said Punjab’s one third of the development budget will be doled out to the local government institutions.
The foreign minister said practical steps have been taken to ensure devolution of power in the province.
