LAHORE: The Punjab Government has launched ‘Taleem Ghar’ app an online teaching programme for the students of class one to eight of all government schools across the province to cover education loss and encourage remote learning among the students staying at home due to COVID-19.
Owing to the prevailing situation of coronavirus in the country all educational institutions had been shut down in March. In the wake of lockdown, the Punjab Government decided to launch an online teaching programme for children via three methods i.e. Taleem Ghar Cable Channel, Website Taleem Ghar, and Mobile App for Taleem Ghar.
Keeping in view the above situation, the third one Taleem Ghar app project was made through collaborative efforts of the School Education Department Punjab through its Programme Monitoring and Implementation Unit (PMIU), and the Punjab IT Board (PITB).
For online teaching the students from class one to eight at their doorsteps under the title ‘Every home will become school’ all lectures are being provided according to the syllabus of Punjab Curriculum & Textbook Board (PCTB).
The spokesperson PITB while talking to daily The Business said that Taleem Ghar is available on Google play store which can be downloaded easily through the android phone. The spokesperson said that for offline lectures the students can also download lectures from Teleem Ghar website https://taleemghar.punjab.gov.pk/.
The spokesperson further said that this app has a simple and easy interface, and interactive teachers teach courses. He explained that science and mathematics lectures are conducted through eight-animated teachers from every Monday to Thursday on local Cable TV.
To a question, the spokesperson said that through media campaigns people are getting awareness. Taleem Ghar app has been launched to make available localised and engaging multimedia lessons online, for public school students of class one to eight while matric and inter lectures will be available soon, he added.
Punjab’s first educational cable TV transmission, Taleem Ghar has been launched which is being aired in all districts of the province. The students can watch educational videos on general knowledge and science with animated teachers, Mr Newton, Miss Arfa and Miss Curie. The TV cable channels are now airing online education lectures from 9 am to 2 pm daily.
The Punjab Government has also launched a YouTube channel for online lectures. The students can also get online education from its channel namely (Taleem Ghar) which has been subscribed by more than 12,000 people since its inception.
In this regard, the guidelines for TeleSchool had already been issued to the cable operators by the PEMRA. The government had encouraged that the students should get the benefits of these online teaching classes. “Parents should also engage their children to learn online and benefit from these lectures. These lectures are available now at the concerned platforms. No one knows the exact date of the better situation of this coronavirus”.
According to the online app details, the ‘SIS Punjab’ mobile app has been downloaded more than 12, 900 times since its launch. A citizen named Sundas Jabeen says in her comments at online apps that it is a great app developed by the Punjab Government, “I am amazed by the content and animation of lectures. She said that students will surely enjoy the learning, they are really good that even being an adult I want to listen to them all,” She also requested for uploading lectures of class five.
The Chairman PITB Azfar Manzoor has said that Taleem Ghar initiative aimed to encourage remote learning among students. He maintained that the Taleem Ghar project would be much beneficial for the students in the prevailing situation of coronavirus pandemic.
