ISLAMABAD::Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Capital Development Authority (CDA) Affairs Ali Nawaz Awan Saturday said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government strongly believed in supremacy of law and had zero tolerance for corruption.
An indiscriminate accountability of the corrupt elements was imperative to eliminate the menace from the country, he said talking to a private news channel.
Ali Nawaz Awan said the previous governments had promoted the culture of corruption and money laundering. The leadership of opposition parties themselves were involved in corrupt practices while in power and now they were facing accountability for their misdeeds, he added.
He said the opposition leaders were trying to escape from accountability and were using different tactics for the purpose. They wanted an NRO (National Reconciliation Ordinance), but they would not succeed in their endeavours, he added.
Ali Nawaz Awan said though was the constitutional right of opposition to hold protest, but the people were well aware about their motives of escaping from the accountability process.
The special assistant said in the past the leadership of both the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had obtained an NRO from a dictator, but now it was impossible for them to get a way to escape abroad.
Replying to a question, he said the PPP and the PML-N during their last governments had not pursued the accountability process against each other, rather they shielded themselves in the corruption cases.
He said the government was taking different concrete steps to strengthen national economy and institutions.
