PICD to launch mobile app for artists’ financial support

LAHORE: An attempt to provide financial relief to the artists, the Punjab Information and Culture Department (PICD) has formally launched a mobile app that will enable the artists to get registered, submit online applications for several financial assistance and welfare schemes, said the press release issued here on Friday.  

The app will be available soon on the Android Play Store and Apple Store. After signing up, the user will “have access to a number of features such as artist support fund details with personal particulars, artist support funds’ rule and regulation, details of services in art, and financial status of the artist”, the press statement reads.

“The artists from the TV, film, radio, theatre, music, dance, painting, calligraphy, sculpture and other technical departments will be able to apply for the artist support fund”, it added.

The eligible criteria of the artist for applying for getting financial assistance will be considered of those who have relevant experience of 25 years with the age limit of 50 years and their monthly income is less than Rs 15,000 per month.

While talking to Daily The Business, Director-General PILAC/Additional Secretary for Culture Department Saman Rai said that the mobile app will be launched on May 19, 2020, and ready for everyone to use. She added that it’s a data bank app, repository for information to all kind of artist in different subject’s genres.

Ms Saman Rai said that launching of Artists App by Punjab Culture Department was a part of larger digitalization programme of the Punjab Government in almost all provincial departments in the province with a prime mission to ensure ease for people and transparency in the system.

She maintained that the app would help to create a data bank of people serving art and culture on even regional level in the province and manage their requests and applications for several financial assistance and welfare schemes.

She said that it would enable artists to apply in a hassle-free manner by sitting at home or workplace and stop visiting offices, adding that the data of the artists registered on the app would also be made available on the web portal of Punjab Culture Department. “It will help to map and transforming the landscape of culture in Punjab”, Ms Rai concluded.
