PCTB bans on ‘Infant Mathematics’ booklet series

LAHORE: The Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB) has imposed a ban on the booklet series titled ‘Infant Mathematics’ (Pakistan Edition) which was published without getting prior approval of PCTB Lahore by M/S Sunrise Publications here on Wednesday.

The ban on the booklet was imposed due to containing prohibited materials by the PCTB on the directions of the Provincial Minister for School Education Dr Murad Raas, the Spokesmen to Minister said.

A letter was written to the Owner/ Management of the Sunrise Publications, Head office including Lahore and Islamabad offices by the Managing Director of PCTB Rai Manzoor Hussain a copy of which is available with Daily The Business.

According to the written instructions issued by the PCTB that the booklet series published by the M/S Sunrise Publications contained material and content failing under section 10(5) of the PCTB Act 2015 under which printing, publication, selling and prescribing in an institution of any textbook or supplementary material which is likely to be detrimental for examination or assessment purposes. The series contains anything repugnant to the injunctions of the Islam and country to the integrity, defence, or security of Pakistan, public order or morality cannot be approved, read the notification.

The directive reads that the booklet of the series was being published or sold without prior approval of Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board, which is a violation of section 10 of the PCTB Act 2015.

“You are, therefore, directed to stop producing, printing, publishing, selling, or using in any institution of the cited booklet series and immediately recall its stock from school, book shops, and from any other place,” says the letter.

The letter further said that the concerned publisher was warned that if he failed to comply with the direction, strict action would be taken again him under section 14 of the Act (iBid) which carried a punishment of imprisonment up to two years as well as fine. The publisher may also be disqualified for grant of any the permission regarding printing, publication, sale of any book, newspaper and any other supplementary reading material for up to five years and the publisher may also, be prosecuted under other panel laws of Pakistan.

It was also directed to the publisher for submitting its implementation report within seven working days of receipt of this direction, the letter said.
