NAB Lahore claims recovery of over Rs1tri from land mafia

LAHORE: Following the directions from Chairman NAB Justice Javed Iqbal, the purge against illegal Housing Societies during last two years has materialized into a record breaking performance by National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lahore under the auspicious supervision of Director General (DG) Shahzad Saleem.

Lahore bureau of the anti-corruption watchdog has claimed a role in recovery of one trillion and six billion rupees in total to date since 2017, when Shahzad Saleem assumed the charge as DG NAB Lahore, in different Corruption Cases. The figure is unprecedented in last 17 years.

The recovered amount includes direct recovery as cash and indirect recovery in the form of assets or property including References one.

As per the NAB report issued today, at least three billion and 220 million rupees have been collected by NAB Lahore out of an amount of six billion and 420 million rupees as NAB reached Plea Bargain (PB) with the accused persons, whereas, of the above mentioned recovered amount, two billion and 240 million rupees have been distributed among the affectees. Additionally, the Bureau has made it possible the indirect recovery of 51 billion and 570 million rupees too during the said period.
When it comes to action against illegal Housing Societies sector, at least 14 References worth upto 26 billion rupees have been filed in the Accountability Courts during last two and a half year.

The performance further elaborated that a total of 106 References amounting upto 49 billion rupees have, so far, been filed during the period since 2017.
The report delineated further that NAB started investigations into a total of 62 cases of Housing Societies from which only 22 are under investigations at the time. During the said timespan, DG Shahzad Saleem facilitated direct and indirect recoveries to 54304 victims.

While commenting on the performance report, DG NAB Lahore, Shahzad Saleem said that NAB Lahore has been strictly following the incumbent Chairperson NAB, Justice Javed Iqbal’s policy of “Accountability for All”. He and his team are working diligently to recover the looted public and private wealth. He along with his team vows to continue their holy fight against corrupt elements with passion and spirit.“`
