More than 10,000 dies on roads in Pakistan annually

— Three EEEs, Education, Enforcement & Engineering vital components to avoid accidents says SSP Kolachi

LAHORE:  Around 1.3 million people died annually on roads throughout the words while in Pakistan more than 10,000 people died in Pakistan, similarly, more than 50,000 people were injured in road traffic accidents in Pakistan. The young generation between the ages of 14 to 28 is the major contributors to road traffic accidents. Three EEES (3Es); Education, Enforcement & Engineering are the vital components to prevent the road traffic accidents.

These views were expressed by SSP National Highways & Motorways Police (NH&MP), Masroor Alam Kolachi, while talking to Daily The Business here on Friday. He emphasized that road safety is social responsibility and every part of the society should have play their active role to avoid traffic accidents. SSP maintained that road safety should be the part of education syllabus from nursery to metric at least and it also should be mandatory across the board.

SSP Masroor Kolachi said that traffic rules and regulations of driving like the highway, expressway, local and urban areas were changing rapidly according to new dimensions and it was necessary to organize such activities for creating awareness among citizens. Kolachi highlighted that issuance of the license System to the drivers should be transparent and issued after stick scrutiny. He said that there was a need to introduce more initiatives for the provision of driving licenses after professional training.

“The mistakes of drivers or human error; seat ballet, underage driving, over speeding, careless driving, dozing/fatigue during driving, lane violation, overloading etc, mechanical issues of vehicles as like weak tires, brake failure, sharp, the fitness of vehicle, and engineering fault of roads triggered road accidents while most of the accidents were caused by mistakes of drivers,” he said, adding that rules and regulations taught discipline in life.

The Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed said that obeying traffic rules can be reduced accidents on the roads thus avoiding loss of life and property. He said that violation of traffic rules doesn’t suit civilized nations and our religion also tells us to maintain discipline. He was addressing the seminar of road safety and traffic awareness Al-Raazi Hall, organized by The PU and NH&MP. VC said that we should take care of others’ rights on the roads. He appreciated the role of NH&MP for creating awareness among people regarding traffic rules and regulations and making them responsible citizens.

The NH&MP SSP, Masroor Alam Kolachi, Registrar Dr Muhammad Khalid Khan, RO-I Jalil Tariq, Director Students Affairs Dr Asmatullah, Acting Treasurer Rao Muhammad Tahir, senior administrative officers and a large number of students and drivers were present on the occasion. Later, souvenirs were distributed among the guests.
