LAHORE: The Federal Government on Tuesday appointed Major (Retired) Azam Suleman Khan as the Punjab Chief Secretary, said the notification issued by the Cabinet Secretariat Establishment Division, Government of Pakistan.
According to the notification, Major (Retd.) Azam Suleman Khan, a BS-22 officer of Pakistan Administrator, was posted as Secretary Interior, has been transferred and posted as Chief Secretary of Punjab with immediate effect and until further orders. Mr Khan is expected to assume charge his office on Wednesday (today), whereas, the services of Yousaf Naseem Khokhar, have been commended to the Cabinet Division and it is likely to be given charge of secretary in the federation.
The sources said the decision for Azam Suleman’s appointment as provincial chief secretary was taken in a meeting held between PM Imran Khan and Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Tuesday. The sources added that it is also likely for a large number of transfers of different officers from Punjab province.
The Federal Secretary Interior, Retired Major Azam Suleman Khan joined the civil services on August 31, 1990. He was previously a grade 22 officer with the PAS posted under the Punjab government. His domicile is Lahore. He is due to retire on March 22, 2021.
Mr Yousaf Naseem Khokher had been appointed as the Punjab Chief Secretary on October 02, 2018. Mr Khokar served as CS Punjab over the period of one year (one year, one month & 24 days).
Hailing from Multan, Mr Khokher belongs to the 14th common. Mr Khokher spent the first five years of service in Sindh but later remained posted in Punjab for many years. He served as ADCG Sialkot, deputy commissioner Sargodha and Khushab, special secretary to CM Pervaiz Elahi, secretary services, Smeda CEO, principal staff officer to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, federal secretaries planning, power and interior.
