LCWU starts online teaching to bridge education loss

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE: The Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) commenced online-teaching to its students for bridging the education loss in wake of corona outbreak in the country in the light of PHEC’s guidelines.

The varsity was preparing the virtual courses for dissemination to students to meet the challenges if the students would be unable to come on the campus. A range of remote learning technologies and practices would be deployed for students, while minimum staff continue to work on-campus, said a press release issued here on Friday

In a statement, Vice-Chancellor LCWU Prof Dr Bushra Mirza said that the measure would allow for an orderly transition to online delivery if the situation was set to happen in the longer term. “Closure of university to help contain the spread of Covid-19 was a real possibility for Pakistan, particularly as the prospect of community transmission of the virus becomes more likely.

She said that it was a new step to provide remote teaching up to 14,000 students but it would be possible. “We were also very aware of the challenges to the continued delivery of our research commitments, which would also need some careful consideration.

“Suspending on-campus teaching activities provided an opportunity for our staff to focus fully on these areas and to adapt through creative problem solving and collaborative working,” VC added. The tests that were scheduled would also be postponed and rescheduled. A range of on-campus support would also available to help community and Govt, she said, adding that there had already been an “outstanding online response” to support students.

The LCWU spokesperson told that for adopting precautionary measures sanitizers, gloves and face masks were distributed among on-duty staff.  He further said that the first online-meeting of the Graduate Research Committee Department of Mass Communication was held under the supervision of Chairperson Dr Anjum Zia, during which the Research committee reviewed online research proposals of the students.

At the meeting, Dr Sameera Batol, Dr Zaeem Yasin, Durre Ajam and Coordinator 8th semester Muniba Kleem were present online.  He said that the meeting would be held on a daily basis until final approval of the dissertation of the students attending online.
