LAHORE: The World Radio Day was commemorated by the Lahore Arts Council (LAC) in collaboration with Punjab Institute of Language, Art and Culture (PILAC) under the title ‘Radio and Diversity’ at Alhamra Arts Centre here on Thursday.
The purpose to celebrate WRD was to bring the focus on diversity, linguistic and tolerance as it is a crucial medium to celebrate humanity, intercultural competence, and democratic citizenship. Each year the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) around the world celebrate World Radio Day by planning activities with broadcasters, organizations, and communities around the world.
In this connection, a cake-cutting ceremony was held at Alhamra to celebrate the radio as a way of educating people, providing information, and promoting freedom of expression across cultures, which was attended by DG PILAC Saman Rai, Director Information Rafiq Akhtar, Ex-Commissioner Faisalabad Tariq Mehmood Bhatti, Executive Director LAC Ather Ali Khan, Director Arts, and Culture Zulfiqar Ali Zulfi, Actor Rashid Mehmood, Actor Nastoor Jin, actor Haseeb Pasha, PILAC’s FM 95 team and other officers from different organizations.
While speaking at the ceremony, Executive Director of Lahore Arts Council Ather Ali Khan said that the main purpose of observing World Radio Day was to make the public and the media aware of the importance of radio. Khan stated that this day marks a time where people around the world celebrate the radio and how it shapes our lives. Radio informs, transforms and unites us. It brings together people and communities from all backgrounds to foster positive dialogue for change, he added.
Speaking at the occasion, DG PILAC Saman Rai said that Radio encourages decision-makers to establish better access to information through this medium, improve networking and work towards building international cooperation among various broadcasters.
