Int’l Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking observed

Lahore: The 26th June International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed on Friday around the world to raise awareness about the impact of drug abuse and illicit trafficking of drugs. The theme of 2020 is Better Education for Better Care.

The Drug Advisory Training Hub( DATH) & (YOCFAN) organized Annual Award Ceremony 2020 regarding World Anti Drugs Day for Service Providers titled Our Hero’s who served in drug demand reduction fields in collaboration with A.S. Enterprise’s, Colombo Plan and HCF Organization. Syed Zulfiqar Hussain, Consultant, Anti Drugs/Narcotics Campaign presided the event Heros Award ceremony. Mr. Zafar Abbas Naqvi DSP Punjab Police, Dr. Shoaib Zafar Mayo Hospital, Mr. Bassat Latif Director Marketing, Educationist Mr. Amir Mahmood, Zaheer Ali Ahmed Syed Ahmed Shah Director A.S Enterprises and Ms. Saima Shahzad Psychologist also spoke on the occasion.

Syed Zulfiqar said that corona virus didn’t hit the homeless substance use disorders (SUDs) who are using narcotics on footpaths, gardens, parks and in home as well, we have been collected the admission drug addicts data and corona test reports from different areas of Punjab, he added. 67 in April and 41 homeless drug addicts dead bodies found in May 2020 in the city of Lahore due to overdose and shortage of drugs, shortage of food & water, living with miserable condition and majority of them is unknown and homeless drug addicts have been recovered in main areas of Lahore, more than 65 percent drug addicts less than 40 year and about 35 percent drug addicts more than 40.

The new trend of drug addiction Ice crystal, coca, heroin and crack rise in young generation especially in upper class. He said that by involving of different government departments we can minimize the extensive drugs and its worst form of addiction in at community people are dependent to different forms substance in Pakistan including Alcohol, Naswar, Gutka etc… many drugs which are commonly used at street level have not been mentioned in the UNODC report, 2013. Charas and Alcohol drugs are most likely used by young generation. Both of these drugs are easily available in different communities of our society.

Mr. Hussain said that parents can play vital role to curb the menace of drug addiction in their children’s because people have no time to give proper attention to our children’s. Govt. should established new treatment centers in the whole province and food packs and water will more distribute to drug addicts.
