Int’l Customs Day on 26th: Officers of grade 17, above told to put on prescribed uniforms

LAHORE: A fundamental change will be there to see on the World Customs Day this Sunday as the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has ordered all Customs officers including chief collectors and down to grade-7 to put on uniform as prescribed by Schedule-I and II, Daily The Business has learned.
A source said that the FBR has ordered all the officers of Pakistan Customs Services to adhere to the rules of wearing uniform by all officers without distinction chief collectors, collectors.
Earlier, superintendents of Customs and inspectors were observed in uniforms on major occasion and in the fields.
The sources said that this time the authorities concerned strictly warned all the officers from chief collector down to garde-7 employees of the Customs Service.
The concerned collectorates and directorates have been instructed to submit photographic evidence of the officers in their prescribed uniform, the source added further.
It is disclosed that the officers are all set to wear the uniforms after slight alteration in their uniforms after receiving.
Earlier, through a notification the customs officers of all ranks by the grade-7 were instructed to make wearing uniforms a mandatory part of the job.
The officers were informed in exercise of the powers conferred by section 219 of the Customs Act, 1969 (TV of 1969) read with section 8A of the said Act, the Federal Board of Revenue prescribed wearing of uniform by the officers of Pakistan Customs Service (PCS) of grade 17 and above as set out in Schedule-I and II subject to the following, namely-(a) the Uniform shall be worn by all officers, men and women, in all of Pakistan, grade 17 and above, posted in enforcement, preventive and anti-smuggling formations.
It was said that each officer shall have one formal uniform for departmental and State functions or occasions.
Further for officers serving in Baluchistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa a separate option of Militia color Shalwar Kameez uniform is designed. However, where the concerned collector decides Shalwar Kameez option for the duration of the option only Shalwar Kameez uniform shall be opted.
Uniform shall display ribbon strip for any extraordinary achievement.
The traditional Customs Peak caps are only to be worn outdoors, in Parade, and inside only at Airports while headgear shall not be worm inside offices.
The Chief Collector or Director General may decide the timing of summer and winter uniforms.
Place of posting or assignment shall be shown by a monogram worn on left sleeve while the current assignment of the uniformed officer shall be displayed in the shape of a monogram pinned on the left upper arms like the formation signs of the Pakistan Army.
Each Collectorate was allowed design its monogram and badge keeping with its tradition, area, and nature of work as well as representative of the workforce.
The uniform background of the Collectorates shall be Navy Blue and of the Directorates red. Monograms for Customs Officer in Federal Board of Revenue, those on deputation or foreign posting are given in this document.
The notification said further that the AC and DC headquarters will wear a silver braided lanyard on left arm Rank identification is worn on shoulders and sleeves per existing pattern and as prescribed for the Uniform Manual of Pakistan Army; and the officers in BS-l6 and below shall keep on wearing the established uniforms as already notified.
