LAHORE: In order to cope with the rising menace of smuggling in Punjab, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Friday restructured Customs Central Region establishing new regions including Customs Central
Region Appraisement and Customs Central Region Enforcement.
The FBR has made amendment in SRO 607 (I) 2019 by issuing SRO 753 (I) 2019 which said that Chief Collector of Customs Appraisement Central
Customs House, Lahore will be heading Model Customs Collectorate of Appraisment Lahore, Model Customs Collectorate Faisalabad and Model
Customs Collectoarte Sambrial Sialkot.
Similarly, the Chief collector of Customs Enforcement central Customs House, Lahore will be heading MCC of Preventive, Lahore MCC Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore and MCC of Multan.
Earlier the Chief collector of Customs central was exercising its
authority on the Collectoarte of Customs Lahore Preventive and
Collectorate of Customs Lahore Appraisment, collectorate of Customs
Multan and Collectorate of Customs Faisalabad.
Earlier, there was no collectorate of Enforcement working in the
Central Region and the Chief Collector of Customs Central was looking
after the matters related to enforcement.
However, Collectorate of Customs Enforcement was working in Karachi.
In the new restructured set Chief collector of Customs Enforcement
will be holding upper hand over the Collectorate of Appraisement as
the enforcement will look after containers of imports at the entry
points of all dry ports.
The Enforcement Collectorate will also exercise it power of
de-sealing the containers of import.
Sources told Daily The Business that the new set up in Punjab in the
Customs has been introduced to effectively control the menace of
rising smuggling especially in the Central Region and Punjab.
They said that the enforcement Collectorate has been yielding required
results in Karachi and it is therefore the model has been implemented
The Customs Officers of the grade of BS 21 will be heading each
Collectoarte including Collectoarte of Enforcement Lahore and
Collectorate of Appraisement, they said.
They added that the government is doing all out efforts to come over
the issue of smuggling activities which have cripple the national
economy beyond repairs and it is also in this connection that about
478 principal appraisers, appraising/ valuation officers,
superintendent, Dy superintendent and inspectors/ intelligence
officers of Customs Department have been reshuffled across Pakistan
for the first time.
The well informed sources endorsing the reshuffle said that this a
very right step of the Board as most smuggling is managed by the lower
grade officers of Customs .
However, the officials transferred and posted are translating the
large scale reshuffling at across the country have termed the move to
demoralize and demotivate the officers of lower grade.
