By M J Hayat

LAHORE: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has failed to ensure special arrangement for senior citizens and handicapped while its 8300 service worked improperly, families faced difficulties in finding
their members’ votes in the same constituency and police disrupted the observers unduly from executing their duties.
“I am not casting my vote,” Muhammad Amin, 67, a heart patient, told Daily The Business. He left the polling station set up at Wasa Revenue office in Shah Jamal, without casting his vote. His wife Samina cannot
stay there with the humidity and hor weather and the long queue of the votes.

She said that ECP should have made special arrangements for the senior citizens and the patient. Another voter Mansoor Ahmed also lodged similar complaints. He said that he was tired of standing for a long time in long line. He also hails from the same constituency NA-130.
On the other hand, the voters also complained of the failure of 8300 service.

Master Tariq, a worker of the PML-N posted at a camp for guiding voters said that the service was not properly working since the noon and they have manually located the numbers of the voters.
He said that due to the improperly working and some time failure of the service has impacted the smooth working and the voters have to face tough time. Similarly, families have to face difficulties in finding their members vote in the same constituency.
One Bashir Mashi told this scribe that his family votes have been registered in NA-123 while he has been living in NA-130 for generations.
How come that my family votes are registered in NA-123 as I never stayed in NA-123, Bashir said, adding that his vote is registered in NA-130 while his wife and sons votes are registered in NA-123. It was also observed that the police officials unduly stopped the media men and observes who were carrying cards issued by the ECP for observing and reporting on the election in various constituencies.
A reporter said that despite the fact that he showed his ECP card to the police deployed at the Mother and Child Clinic in NA-130, he was not allowed entry to discharge his duty. A candidate on the condition of anonymity said it seems that the policemen deployed at the polling station were not properly trained and thus they not allowed the observers and media men to enter the polling stations.
In orders ensure free and fair election media and observers should be allowed to visit polling booth so that impartiality of the election may not be disputed.
