Govt to extend relief to 75pc of electricity consumers: Bakhat

LAHORE: Punjab Finance Minister Hashim Jawan Bakhat said that the government will give relief to 75 percent of electricity consumers, besides increasing the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) by Rs 80 billion and easiness would be created for low income group in the forthcoming budget.
Addressing the ‘Role of Media in Investment Promotion’ and the oath taking ceremony of Lahore Economic Journalist Association, the minister said that negative propaganda was being spread on IMF programme by the political parties for their political gains. Earlier, Sardar IlyasTanveer took oath from the newly elected body of Lahore economic journalists.
The minister said that the Punjab government focusing engaging the private sector in the development of the province and prioritising public private partnership projects in the forthcoming budget. These projects would not be the part of the ADP, he added.
The minister said that the public sector perform the duties of social sector development while private sector should take the lead for economic growth being engine of growth. He said that in the past governments give temporary support to the economy through their weak policies while current government was dong efforts to strengthen the economy. The minister said that local and foreign investments were crucial for economic revival. He said the government and security agencies were responsible for making business and investment-friendly policies and ensure the security and safety of the public and investors.
Chairman PBIT, Sardar Ilyas Tanveer addressing on the occasion said that media plays pivotal role in the promotion of positive investment climate in any country. He said the media should highlight the efforts made by the government for ease of doing business and investment opportunities provided by the government. He said the media reporting portray the image of any country and media should give positive image of Pakistan to the world.
Chairman PBIT said that the government taken number of business and investment friendly initiatives and outcome of these steps would be long lasting. Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Minister for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mian Aslam Iqbal said that every government introduce its agenda and plans to improve the lives of the people living below the poverty line and the present government primarily focused on it. He said that it was need of the hour to highlight the positive actions and policies of government instead of creating panic and chaos.
He said that if uncertainty would prevail than economic revival would not be possible which will adversely affect the commoners. He said the confidence of the local investors was reviving with the steps taken by the present government and they were contributing their share in the economic revival. The seminar was also attended by the President Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry Almas Hayder, Flour Millers Asim Raza and Mian Riaz, and President Anjuman-e-Tajiran Mian Waqar and other prominent businessmen.
