ITU’s SDG tech lab to provide technological solutions: Dr Niaz

LAHORE: The School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SH&SS) of the Information Technology University (ITU) the Punjab’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Tech Lab in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Pakistan would provide technological solutions to achieve sustainable development goals for Pakistan through innovative tools coupled with internationally recognised research.
Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar observed during a meeting here on Monday. The main objective of SGD Tech Lab was to develop and implement scalable tools for an overall improvement in state-citizen interaction and governance to positively impact policy making.
The SDG – Tech Lab being launched on February 20, 2019, Wednesday at Arfa Software Technology Park would explore exciting new synergies and the use of data to enhance public services effectively and explore monitoring and evaluation through the lens of SDG indicators.
Through this platform, new policy innovations can be expanded from a provincial level to national level.
Mr Ignacio Artaza, Country Director, UNDP Pakistan will inaugurate the SDG Tech Lab while Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, Acting Vice-Chancellor, ITU, Dr. Akmal Hussain Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, ITU, Dr. Izza Aftab Director SDG Tech Lab, Head of Economics Department, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, ITU, Shakeel Ahmad Chief Development Policy Unit and Assistant Country Director, UNDP Pakistan and Ms. Lina Mousa Representative, UNFPA Pakistan will address the workshop.
