PTI govt’s revolutionary steps to overcome losses of Pakistan Post: Murad Saeed

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Postal Services Murad Saeed Monday said the revolutionary steps being taken by the incumbent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government not only would overcome current Rs10 billion losses of Pakistan Post, but also make it an earning department.
Talking to APP, he said the government is planning to start various innovative projects including re-branding of post offices, mobile money order and e-commerce.
He said Pakistan Post has a huge network of 13,000 post offices across the country, adding that digitization of postal services would make possible modern and fastest facilities to the people in far flung areas of the country.
During visit to General Post Office, Melody, the minister said postal market current value is Rs80 billion and efforts underway for enhance it with attractive package and financial services.
He said postal sector was always ignored in previous governments, adding that Pakistan Post officials are capable to overcome the losses by improving its services.
He said the innovative projects not only overcome its current losses, but also make it an earning
institution.
Pakistan Post is providing delivery services to about 20 million households and businesses as community service without any cost considerations.
In addition to its traditional role, the Pakistan Post also performs agency functions on behalf of federal and provincial governments, which inter-alias include savings bank, postal life insurance, collection of taxes, collection of electricity, water, sui gas and telephone bills.
