Security of political leaders, candidates first priority, says CM
Holds meeting with representatives of political parties
LAHORE: A high-level meeting was held at Chief Minister’s Office with Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Dr. Hasan Askari in the chair in which representatives of political parties were also present.
Matters relating to implementation of code of conduct and arrangements made for the security of the candidates and leading political leaders came under discussion.
Addressing the meeting, Dr Hasan Askari said that security of political leaders, candidates as well as the people is the first priority and added that cooperation of political parties and their candidates is essential to deal with the threat of terrorism. The political parties will gain equal opportunities due to peaceful atmosphere during the elections.
Matters relating to the elections are being settled in consultation with the political parties, he added.
The candidates should ensure implementation on code of conduct of the election commission for their security.
We want to transform this occasion as an election of equal opportunities for all the parties, he said.
He said that political parties, candidates and the caretaker government are committed to achieve the collective objective of peaceful atmosphere.
It’s a sensitive occasion and a time to remain sane instead of becoming emotional. He said that candidates can contact him, ministers or the local administration in case of any issue or the complaint.
The caretaker government is making utmost efforts for the solution of every complaint and it is fully alert to perform its duties and its eyes and ears are fully open, he added.
Provincial Home Minister Shaukat Javed said that anti-Pakistan elements are bent upon ruining the peaceful atmosphere.
Last few days are crucial and implementation on code of conduct is very essential to ensure security. Representatives of the political parties said that cooperation will be extended to the government to ensure peaceful holding of the elections. They also assured of following the code of conduct.
Representatives of political parties taking part in the elections, provincial ministers including Syed Zia Haider Rizvi, Shaukat Javed, Ahmed Waqas Riaz, Zafar Mehmood, Chief Secretary, ACS (Home), IG Police, Secretary Information and others attended the meeting.
Visits CM’s complaint cell
Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Dr. Hasan Askari visited the Chief Minister’s Complaint Cell at 5-Club Road, here today.
He inspected different sections and monitored the procedure of redressal of complaints.
He also met with the complainants and issued on-spot instructions for the solution of their complaints.
Provincial Ministers Zia Haider Rizvi, Ahmed Waqas Riaz and others were also present on the occasion.
Talking to the complainants, the Chief Minister said that complaints cell has been reactivated to solve the problems of the people and added that online complaints can also be submitted now.
Talking to the media, the Chief Minister said that provision of relief is the fundamental duty of the government.
Prompt action is taken on every complaint received in the complaints cell in the light of departmental report.
The representatives of concerned departments will be available in the complaints cell for the redressal of public complaints relating to police, revenue and other departments.
He said the people can directly submit their applications or they can send it through email or by post.
Departmental action will be ensured on the complaints received from the people and it has been decided to reactivate the complaints cell according to needs of the people.
We will give full attention to improve the performance of complaints cell within our timeframe, he added.
Our government is fully engaged to give necessary relief to the people and reactivation of this cell has been done for this purpose.
It is hoped that complaints cell’s activation will help to solve the problems of the people in a better way.
Immediate action will be taken on the complaints lodged in the cell but this action will be taken in the light of the report submitted with regard to the complaint. He said that most of the complaints relate to police department or applications are submitted for some financial aid.
We want that these problems of the people should be amicably solved and that is why complaints cell has been activated, he added. I make a promise that prompt action will be taken for the redressal of the complaints so that the complainants could get timely relief. To a question, he said that efforts will be made for early disposal of complaints as well as to avoid the undue delay. We want to set an example for the upcoming government and some proposals will be drafted for the next elected government to bring improvements in the daily life of the people.
It is the fundamental duty of the government to solve the problems of the masses and to improve their quality of life, he added.
He made it clear that incumbent caretaker setup is totally neutral and if anybody has any complaint towards the Punjab government then the same should be brought to our notice and we will make utmost effort to redress this complaint.
However, many of the matters belong to the federal government and the election commission.
The complaint relating to the Punjab government will be immediately noticed and we will work for its solution.
Replying to a question asked about stopping the convoy of Bilawal Bhutto, he said that the matter that took place in Uch Sharif has been settled and I think that all this happened due to change in route of the convoy.
The resultant issue was timely solved, he added. To a question, he said that special attention has been given to the security of candidates and leading political leaders and instructions have also been issued to concerned departments and agencies.
