LAHORE: Secretary Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Punjab Saqib Zafar has said that King Edward Medical University (KEMU) is known as the pioneer institution for the promotion and flourishing of medical education in the country which has its own historical prospective and traditions.
He said that government would fully extend cooperation in completing the development projects of the university.
He stated this while visiting KEMU, Mayo Hospital and surgical tower on Wednesday. On arrival at KEMU the Vice Chancellor Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal, Prof. Amir Zaman Khan, Prof. Irshad Hussain Qureshi, Prof. Ayesha, MS Dr. Tahir Khalil and other officers welcomed the Secretary Health. Special Secretary Health Usman Mouzam was also accompanying the Secretary.
VC KEMU briefed the Secretary about the development schemes and academic activities of the university. Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal informed that a new campus of KEMU is being constructed near Muridke for which a link road is very essential from the campus to Lahore Sialkot motorway for the convenience of the students. Secretary Health assured that government would extend cooperation and funding for the development projects.
He urged upon the teachers of KEMU to continue their due role for the promotion of medical education and to produce good doctors according to previous history of the university.
Later, Secretary Specialized Healthcare visited emergency department of Mayo Hospital.

He also inspected the washrooms and checked the cleanliness condition in the wards. Saqib Zafar took a round of surgical tower also. VC KEMU, MS Mayo Hospital and other professors and senior doctors were also present on this occasion. Saqib Zafar said that surgical tower equipped with latest medical equipments and diagnostic facilities is an state-of-the-art health facility which has been included in the system, it would enhance best treatment facilities to the patients.
The Secretary also reviewed the ongoing renovation and repair and maintenance work in different wards of the hospital.
